Synopsis

Durga (Rakhee Gulzar) is a single mother who looks after her two sons Karan and Arjun (Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan). Their father was killed by his merciless brother Durjan Singh (Amrish Puri). When Durjan Singh hears that Karan and Arjun are to inherit the money left over by their dying grandfather, he has them killed. Durga cannot accept that her sons have died and prays to Goddess Kali to bring her sons back to life and is often mocked by Durjan Singh and his family who do not believe that Karan and Arjun will ever return. Durga's prayers are answered - her sons are reborn but into different families with no knowledge of their previous lives.

Arjun is reincarnated as Vijay. Vijay works in a stable with his uncle after his parent's death. He and Sonia Saxena (Kajol) are deeply in love. However, what Vijay doesn't know is that Sonia is being forced to marry Durjan Singh's son, Suraj (Aashif Sheikh). Meanwhile, Karan is reincarnated as Ajay and is a professional fighter. He soon is emplyed by Saxena (Ranjeet), Sonia's father and Durjan Singh's partner in crime. He is in love with Bindya (Mamta Kulkarni). Saxena hears of Vijay and Sonia's love and decides to get Sonia married to Suraj as soon as possible. Vijay arrives at their engagement party and attacks Suraj. Ajay is called to fight Vijay but all of a sudden they are prevented from attacking one another by a bolt of lightning. When Saxena tries to shoot Vijay, Ajay stops him whilst shouting "Run, Arjun, Run!" Vijay escapes whilst Ajay is sent to prison. Vijay receives a letter from Sonia saying she is being forced to live in Durjan Singh's house and will even committ suicide instead of marrying Suraj.

Vijay and his friend (Johnny Lever) go to the village where Sonia is being held in order to rescue her. Vijay is recognised by all the villagers as Arjun. Durga is overjoyed to see her son again - Vijay is shocked when he sees a picture of him and Ajay in Durga's hand, he then realises that he and Ajay were brothers in their past life. He and Bindya rush to rescue Ajay from prison and the two are reunited with their mother. Ajay and Vijay reassume their identities as Karan and Arjun. They are first discovered by Durjan's brothers-in-law who they suceed in killing. Saxena eventually realises what Durjan Singh is really like so allows Sonia to elope with Arjun. However, it turns out to be a setup in order to allow Durjan to kill Karan and Arjun again. With the help of the villagers, Karan and Arjun wipe out Durjan's bandits. Finally only Durjan is left and Karan and Arjun beat him and then shoot him, bringing peace to their mother's life. All ends well as Arjun marries Sonia and Karan marries Bindya.
